Shiraz City is the capital of Fars Province, and it’s location is in the Southwest of Iran. It is known as the city of culture and art, heritage and archaeology, music, exquisite mosques, poets, poetry, literature, wine, splendid gardens and flowers. In fact, it becomes synonymous with education, nightingales, poetry and wine. It is a center for Iranian culture and has a number of famous poets. There are two famous poets’ or mystic’s tombs of Iran Hafez and Saadi in this city. Iranians love both. Most of the Shiraz populations are Muslims. Shiraz City has many Football teams. Shiraz has three life styles such as nomadic life, peasant life and fertile plains around the Karbal, Estakhr, and Dashte Marghab and urbanism (in Shiraz and Kazerun). Climate of Shiraz city

Shiraz City has a hot semi-arid climate. Its humidity and temperature is very nice most of the time in a year. However, summers are hot, especially in July (The warmest month is July), and winters are cold with average low temperature below freezing in December and January (the coldest month is January).

The months with the lowest chance of significant precipitation in Shiraz city are September, July, and then August. The lowest chance of rain or snow occurs around late April. We can find snow in Shiraz near the early mid-January.

The handicrafts of Shiraz City includes:

Carpet weaving: carpet waving is Yazd principal handicraft, bur Fars carpet is also one of the treasury arts of Shiraz city.

Daraie: It is a kind of soft silk fabric with gorgeous-colored diamond shapes on it. They produce Daraie in yellow, red, green and purple colors.

Pottery: Pottery is one of the oldest human inventions and it is the ceramic material, which makes up pottery wares.

Gabbeh: Gabbeh is a traditional variety of Persian carpets; it is much thicker, and coarser than other Persian carpets. Women usually ctraft the gabbeh in Shiraz.

Giveh: It is a kind of comfortable shoe that is common in rural and mountainous areas.

Inlay such as inlaid mosaic work of triangular design, Pile carpet weaving and weaving of kilim, with the name of Gelim and Jajim are one of the most attractive handicrafts of Shiraz villages. Among the tribes wooden products and metal works are so popular.

Maskati: It is a delicious dessert, pasty and one of the most famous Persian sweets regarding as Shiraz souvenirs. The main ingredient is starch. It is differing in colors and flavors such as rose, saffron, etc.

Lemon and lime: These are as one of the major souvenirs of Shiraz city. The harvest of these products start in September until May and it is used fresh or in the water. In addition to great taste, they have many health benefits.

Distillates: One of the best souvenirs of Shiraz gardens are Distillates. Each of them has their own taste and health benefits. People in Shiraz prefer them to industrial drinks. The most popular of them are wild rose, two fires and sweat musk willow.

Shiraz citrus aurantium: Orange trees and citrus aurantium perfume are famous in this city especially in May. They create a special atmosphere. Different products of Shiraz citrus aurantium include citrus Aurantium perfume, citrus aurantium tea, citrus aurantium Jams and citrus aurantium syrup. These have many health benefits such as curing nervous headache attacks and anti-anxiety and relaxing.

Masghati Halva: a great dessert and snack. Ingredients are Rice Flour, Starch, water & Rose water (mostly rose water), sugar, oil and saffron.

Shirini-e Nokhodchi (Chickpea flour cookie) and Shirini-e Golpar: They are delicious cookies or sweats made of chickpea flour, cardamom, rose water, and pistachio.

Famous food, drinks and desserts of Shiraz city

Famous and local food of Shiraz City includes Kebab with rice like elsewhere in Iran.

Shiraz Faludeh: Every one around Iran knows this Faludeh. It is popular around Iran, but originated in Shiraz and it’s brilliant. People in Iran drink it with lemon and different juices and distillate for every individual. In fact, Faludeh is a cold dessert, which contains thin rice starch which takes the form of noodles, mixe in semi-frozen rosewater syrup, and It is flavored with “Sharbat” (sugar water), which can be of different flavors. It is very tasty when mixed with Bahar-e-Naranj liquor.

Shirazi Salad It is a delicious and famous salad available throughout Iran, made with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and a simple lemon juice and olive oil.

Kalam polo: It is a traditional food found only in Shiraz City. It is a dish made of Rice, meatballs, chopped cabbage and some other vegetables and spices.

Ash shirazi: It is a kind of soup made of vegetables and meat. It is served all over the city early in the morning. People eat this Ash for breakfast. Besides all famous drinks and desserts in this city, other souvenirs include meskhetian, Lemon and lime juice, Distillates, Faludeh, Aurantium, Masghati Halva, Shirini-e Nokhodchi (Chickpea floor cookie) and Shirini-e Golpar as mentioned above.
